Summary

Cropmarks of kite-shaped and rectangular enclosures

Map

Type and Period (1)

Full Description

{1} Air photographs taken since 1963 show a series of at least four sub-rectangular enclosures of 0.5 to 0.75 acres apiece, containing circular or rectangular internal features.

{2} Enclosures (centred SP 711702), lie immediately W. of the village. Cropmarks are visible on air photographs (in NMR) over an area of about two hectares. There appear to be two sub-rectangular enclosures, each of about 0.5ha, separated by what might be a ditched trackway. The northern enclosure contains a small irregular enclosure in its northern corner and a number of possible internal ditches. A small enclosure and linear ditches lie to the west. The southern enclosure has no interior features, but is cut by a linear ditch on its western side. To the east is another group of ditches, none of which is clear on the available air photos.

{3} Cropmarks of a 'kite'-shaped and rectilinear enclosures, with a possible square enclosure to the south. Also a possible ditched trackway amd other possible ditches. There are also possibly other archaeological features shown on aerial photographs which have not been plotted.
