Summary

Ditched trackway enclosures and ditches of probable Iron Age or Roman date are visible as cropmarks on historic aerial photographs. Located in a field north of Fox Covert, a double ditched trackway about 10 metres wide extends about 97 metres NW-SE. S of the SE end is a D-shaped ditched enclosure with a ditch up to 4 metres wide that encloses an area about 16.5 x 14 metres, with the curving side facing NE.

Full Description

{1} Cropmarks of a short length of ditched trackway with a rectangular enclosure at its south-east end. Immediately to the south is a small D-shaped enclosure. Further north is an L-shaped ditch with an oval enclosure to its east. Cropmark interpretation plan Fig.157.

{2} As described at (1), a ditched trackway and D-shaped enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible as cropmarks on historic aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Located in a field about 275 metres north of Fox Covert and centred at SP 91008 63717, two up to 2.5 metres wide parallel linear ditches form a double ditched trackway about 10 metres wide that extends about 97 metres NW-SE. About 40 metres S of the SE end is the D-shaped enclosure with a ditch up to 4 metres wide that encloses an area about 16.5 x 14 metres, with the curving side facing NE.No other features as detailed at (1) were visible on the 1954 dated APs referenced
