Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking in May 1975 on the allotments recovered 21 early middle Saxon pot sherds and 26 prehistoric flints.
On 18th May 1975 fieldwalking in adjacent field (Field 45) recovered 14 early middle Saxon pot sherds.
The Allotments and adjacent field were walked again in May 1976. More than 50 early middle Saxon pot sherds were recovered as well as over 50 prehistoric flints.

{3} Saxon settlement (SP 885652) NE of the village, on Boulder Clay at 85 m. above OD. A large number of early Saxon sherds have been discovered.

{4} The quantities of sherds found represent a sizeable assemblage for this period and may indicate a site of some significance. Such pottery sometimes indicates settlement but may also be indicative of a cremation cemetery.
