{1} Great and Little Oakley were held together as Aclea in Domesday from Countess Judith. Woodland measuring one x half a furlong was recorded in Domesday. The manors were held by a long series of minor lords. Sir Thomas Brooke, Lord of Great Oakley, claimed various exemptions for his woods within the forest of Rockingham by a grant of 1234. Pipewell Abbey and St. Andrew's Priory, Northampton also held land in Great Oakley.
{3} Several bombs fell in the district on 25th June 1942 "most fell on open field, including two large oil bombs to the south of Great Oakley."
