Full Description
{1} RCHM records that Thorpe Lubenham DMV SP 70508682 had consistently low tax returns in 1334 and 1337. By 1547 600 sheep grazing the lordship. North-west of the moat and on the other side of the present road is a small area of earthworks bounded on the west and south-west by a low scarp and consisting of a series of small, irregular enclosures {9}. They have been overploughed with ridge and furrow which renders interpretation difficult, but are probably part of the hamlet. Further earthworks of closes and ponds lie on the other side of the River Welland in Leicestershire.
{2} The DMV of Thorpe Lubenham SP 705866, was in medium condition in 1955. The village was not distinguished from Marston Trussell in 1086, and the first mention was in 1316. It was part of the chapelry of Lubenham (Leics) although it was assessed in Northants. The probable desertion date is before 1674.
{5} Earthworks cover 2ha; a hollow way runs north-south with house platforms and garden plots on either side.
{6} Possible Medieval Paddocks (Morphed Aerial Archaeology Interpretation). Earthwork: Non-destructive fieldwork
{7} (Nothing visible in this area on Aps).
{8} There is amorphous disturbance in the field centred to SP 706866 which probably indicates the site of this village. Although now pasture the field has been under plough.
