Summary

Fieldwalking in the 1970s identified two areas of extensive building debris (SP 71084467 and 71164446) dressed limestone, Romano-British pottery and two Roman coins and were interpreted as indicating possible "villa farm" sites. Further significant finds have been found in the subsequent years.

Full Description

{1} Fine Roman site, probably a villa-farm, with substantial buildings to judge from the amount of dressed limestone debris. Coins of the 3rd and 4th centuries have been found, and Samian pottery as well as late 3rd century rim forms.

{4} The discovery of large quantities of dressed limestone, 3rd and 4th-century coins and Roman pottery including samian suggests the existence of a large Roman building or farm.
