Full Description
{1, 2} A single transect of the northern part of the field was fieldwalked. Three flints and four pieces of Roman pottery were recovered.
{3} Geophysical survey results indicated weak anomalies including probable parallel ditches and pits.
{4} Archaeological trial trench excavation identified a concentration of Roman features around Trench 23, confirming the geophysical survey results. Both ditches were identified. The southern ditch was the more substantial and the remains of a heavily truncated pottery kiln was cut into the southern side. Kiln bars were recovered from the ditch fill. One of the discrete features identified during the geophysical survey was found to be an iron smelting furnace.
