Description

{1} An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land to the south of the existing A43 near Pimlico, Syresham on land designated for soil disposal in connection with the A43 road improvement scheme. The evaluation fieldwork was designed to test the results of the previous geophysical survey. A small Iron Age enclosure, and areas of Roman occupation covering about 6ha were discovered on land designated for soil disposal south of Syresham. The Roman remains included a pottery kiln and an iron smelting furnace, both probably dating to the 1st century AD. The land here is to be re-instated without further archaeological work.
