Monument record 1734 - Possible Early Iron Age Settlement, west of the A45

An incomplete sub-rectangular enclosure was initially identified as a cropmark on aerial photographs and subsequently excavated ahead of gravel extraction in 1992. Possible Prehistoric or Roman enclosure visible as a cropmark on air photographs in 1980.

{1} Excavation in 1992 by the Central Archaeological Service confirmed the presence of the ditched enclosure and entrance. A series of postholes and small pits were also excavated within the enclosure, as well as a few lying outside. No pottery was obtained from the ditch for dating but a small amount of possible early Iron Age pottery was recovered from the internal features.

{2} The feature was initially identified as a cropmark as an incomplete sub-rectangular enclosure with a centrally placed entrance facing the stream.
