Full Description

{1} Major rescue excavation; Roman corridor villa with five rooms on one side; adjacent was a circular stone building with a tesselated floor replacing an earlier timber structure; inhumations, pot sherds and coins were found; the excavation was undertaken D Jackson in 1971; the building extended beneath the modern road.

{2} An extensive landscape of prehistoric and Roman features was identified by D.Jackson along the gravel terrace of the River Nene to the west of Ringstead village prior to and during gravel extraction between 1970 and 1981. The results of excavations carried out in 1971-2 on Roman buildings have been published elsewhere (Jackson 1980).
