Summary
Building remains recorded surviving 1m high. A quantity of building debris including tesserae, glass, painted wall-plaster and roof tiles, associated with Nene Valley-type pottery and some samian, has been found over an area of about 50 metres by 50 metres. The finds have been interpreted as indicating the site of a Roman building or villa of the 2nd-4th century.

{1}FIELD VISIT 17/04/89; G.FOARD; SURFACE REMAINS INDICATE SIGNIFICANT ON GOING DAMAGE TO VILLA BUILDINGS (1);
{2}Quantity of limestone pieces, Romano-British pot and tile found on site of Romano-British villa during fieldwalking. Indicates that walls or other structural remains of villa are in the process of active plough destruction. See supplementary file for details of fieldwalking transects.
{3} 72 items discovered by metal detecting around the area of the Roman villa - including 54 Roman coins. Fieldworker - N Howe; items identified by Mark Curteis, Northampton Museum.

{6} Finds. A stone area and finds of building debris, tesserae, glass, painted wall plaster, roof tiles, colour coated ware and samian, from an area 50m X 50m centred on SP98857738. Found by D. Jackson.
{7} RB building debris and pottery found at SP 98857738 by D Jackson. A heavy scatter of RB occupation debris seen at the indicated site during field investigation.
{9} SP98857740. Catalogue of finds discovered by metal detecting in the parish of Woodford. Field worker: N. Howe. Identified by Mark Curteis of Northampton Museum. Many finds listed. Unchecked.
{14} Large building at north raised 1metre above field level. Significant surface finds ranging from terrerae to limestone walling. Occupation levels are likely to have survived under building rubble.
{15} SP 988774. The finds included stone scatter, many roof tiles, tesserae, painted wall plaster and 2nd to 4th century sherds. Cropmarks of enclosures also observed.
{16} Roman building (SP 9885778). A quantity of building debris including tesserae, glass, painted wall-plaster and roof tiles, associated with Nene Valley-type pottery and some samian, has been found over an area of about 50m by 50m. A gold coin found in 'Thrapston Field' probably came from here.
{17} Cropmarks - ring ditch, irregular enclosure, sub-circular enclosure. All features recorded on AP in 1980.
