Full Description

{1} Biggin was a grange, with deer-park, of Peterborough Abbey;

{2} There was possibly a DMV at Biggin some enclosure and depopulation here, 1518.

{3} 'New Place' or 'Biggin Grange' was built in the late 12th century by Abbot Benedict; located at TL011891;

{5} Earthworks visible on aerial photographs; irregular eathworks within a rectangular enclosed area possibly associated with Biggin Grange. A slight hollow in front of the hall may be a garden feature. Possibly circular in shape occupying the whole area within an enclosure to the east of the hall; G.FOARD (21/1/1981);TL011891;

{6}Documentary evidence identified by G Foard indicates that in the 14th century its buildings included a kitchen, barn and malt kiln with a vineyard being establised in 1308.

{8} No evidence for desertion seen in the area, the suggested site is under crop.
