Abstract/Summary

The evaluation identified part of the Roman town wall and its associated ditch along with occupation levels relating to the period before the wall was built – the late first and second centuries. Further away from the wall similar levels were identified, and in Trench 1, nearest to the Watling Street frontage, a medieval pit was located. The scarcity of the medieval features was similarly noted in previous excavations on adjacent areas.
