Abstract/Summary

The early map evidence has shown that the present property boundaries date back to at least 1621 and that the frontage of the property, along Church Street, was occupied by a range of buildings which evolved from 1621 until the site was cleared in 1950, for the construction of the present house. The field evaluation has shown that the 1950 house clearance and subsequent gardening activities have almost entirely destroyed the evidence of the early post-medieval occupation and of any earlier medieval settlement. Only a small central area in the vicinity of the cobbled area shows any promise of being at all well preserved.
