Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was carried outon the site of a new house under construction on the main road (A43) in Collyweston. This village and its surroundings were the centre of the roofing slate industry, using a local variant of the Lincolnshire Limestone. The watching brief revealed a series of deposits of slate fragments, interpreted as the backfill of one or more quarry pits. Dating evidence was limited to the upper layers of these fills, and consisted of late 19th and 20th century pottery and other artefacts.
