Abstract/Summary

A rapid site visit was undertaken to assess and conduct basic recording of a small industrial building, almost certainly a clay receiving shed, proposed for partial demolition on urgent safety grounds. It is recommended that demolition be restricted to the minimum required. The building forms part of a former 19th and early 20th century brickworks now managed as a Local nature Reserve. Other parts of this industrial site and its archaeological potential are briefly described. The site is one of a small number of historic brickworks known to survive in Northamptonshire and is potentially of county importance. Initial recommendations for immediate and longer term care are provided and include the need for further assessment of the brickworks in order to inform understanding and assist identification of appropriate long term conservation.
