Abstract/Summary

Northamptonshire Archaeology undertook recording of the fabric of St Andrews Church, Clay Coton during its conversion to residential use. The church is a Scheduled Ancient Monument which was deconsecrated in 1966 and since that time has been in a poor state of repair. This report includes a description of the church prior to cinversion, an outline of the development changes, and a detailed record of the architectural features altered or obscured by the new works. The recording included, principally, the grave slabs in the floor, the windows and the door arches. The recording for the most part confirmed previous analyses of the building, indicating a largely 14th century construction with extensive rebuilding in the 19th century. It is suspected that the tower may be earlier but this could not be confirmed.
