Abstract/Summary

Fotheringhay is a small village probably best known for its castle and its association with Mary Queen of Scots. The parish church of St Mary's and All saints at Fotheringhay, once the dynastic mausoleum of the House of York, now consists of a magnificent perpendicular nave. Installation of new bells in 1990 initiated the discovery and subsequent excavation of a forgotten ossuary beneath the floor of the north porch. Material recovered indicated that the room was contemporary with the 15th century building and included a large amount of the original stained window glass.
