Abstract/Summary
Trial excavation established the remains of the former Augustinian Abbey of St James, founded in the early 12th cnetury and dissolved in 1538. It was possible to identify the location of the abbey church, the cloister and main monastic ranges, but the walls of these buildings had all been robbed to below former ground level.
