Abstract/Summary

Excavations to the north of Campbell Square revealed three phase of occupation spanning the period from the 12th century to the 19th century. A deep, wide ditch may relate to the medieval or civil war defences. Ironstone structures were built over it in the late 16-17th centuries. The site was subsequnetly extensively quarried before being redeveloped in 1845.
