Abstract/Summary

An Archaeological watching brief was carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology at Fotheringhay Castle, during excavations for the laying of a low voltage electric cable. A trench 43m long was excavated from the public road at the north of the site, along the eastern side oof the access road to the castle and car park. The trench terminated at an earlier east to west cable trench that extended below the access road and linked to the rear of buildings on the west of Castle Farm. At the north of the trench, immediately below the modern gatepost, an earlier limestone gate pier was exposed in the base of the trench. The trench was angled to avoid damage to this feature. No other arcaeological features were exposed within the cut of the cable trench.
