Abstract/Summary

In June 2005 an historic building survey was carried out at the former White and Co shoe factory , Station Road, Earls Barton prior to demolition. John White and Co established their Station Road factory in the 1890's: the first building was a long range set at right angles to the road. This was subsequently expanded to the south, along the street frontage. Some time after 1958 a new block was constructed to the rear of the original factory, linked to it by a first floor bridge. The new building was the subject of this survey. The original factory was demolished after 1974, and an extension was added to the rear of the 1950's building. A smaller building to the south east, also constructed after 1958, was modernised after 1974, including replacement of its roof.
