Abstract/Summary

Northamptonshire Archaeology carried out a desk-based assessment on land between Empingham, Rutland and Leicestershire and Hannington, Northamptonshire, for Anglian Water Ltd. The proposed pipeline spans the historic counties of Rutland, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. This report is an update to the Empingham to Hannington Pipeline desk-based assessment prepared by Northamptonshire Arhaeology in 1998 and forms the Northamptonshire section (NA 1998). Several areas of archaeological activity are recorded within the development area, the map evidence and historical background remains the same as that of the other assessment. There is moderate potential for the survival of archaeological deposits within the pipeline area including possible further Roman activity at White Gates Farm, Rushton, and several foci of medieval activity.
