Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation on land near Crick, Northamptonshire, in connection with a planning application, employed a variety of techniques to assess the present state and possible potential of archaeological remains. The presumed width of the Roman road, Watling Street, was established. Trial excavations were carried out in areas where geophysical survey showed traces of below ground features and possible field systems and enclosures of Romano-British date (c.AD50 - AD400) were uncovered, Also uncovered, in two separate parts of the site, were iron age settlements (c.600BC - AD50) with circular ditches some of which may have been contemporary with early Romano-British activity.
