Abstract/Summary

An archaeologcial watching brief was undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology during groundworks connected with the installation of two new security bollards on land at Canons Ashby House. The bollards were installed as part of the anti-theft measures taken for the security of the Shepherd Boy statue that stands within the gardens of the house adjacent to the former main access to the house. An examination revealed a natural substratum comprising red/ brown fragments of ironstone sealed by grey/ brown silt loam, containing numerous fragments of pale grey/ brown mortar which may be connected with the former main access driveway to the house. No archaeological deposits were present and no artefacts were recorded.
