Abstract/Summary
Building recording was undertaken prior to refurbishment. The buildings are of vernacular architectural and historic interest, and appear on OS maps dating from the 1880s. Four ranges of agricultural buildings around a courtyard were recorded. On the west side of the courtyard, the earliest building is a tall threshing barn, probably dating to the mid-late 18th century. This retains many original features including triangular and lancet ventilators and chamfered beams. A cow shed or stable was built on the east side of the courtyard in the early - mid 19th century. The original features surviving include stable doors, slatted vents, mangers and hayrack. Two further ranges were constructed at the end of the 19th century, an open fronted cart shed of 4 bays to the south side; its frontage being supported on timber stanchions. An open fronted animal shelter to the north side included piers of late handmade bricks. Probably also in the late 19th century the threshing barn was re-roofed with Welsh slate. Various alterations were made in the 20th century. The stable/ cow shed and cart shed were both re-roofed and the stanchion arrangement at the cart shed frontage was changed. A partition was also inserted in the animal shelter shed, splitting it into two cells.
