Abstract/Summary

An archaeological trial trench evaluation of farmland to the east of Station Road. The results of the trial trenching confirmed that the features identified by geophysical survey in the south western corner of the site relate to a middle Iron Age farming settlement. This forms part of a larger complex of contemporary settlement activity which extends to the south of the site and to the west of Station Road, parts of which were investigated in the 1990s prior to the development of the area for housing. Many of the excavated features were still visible in the subsoil and the preservation of the pottery was very good. An infant burial was identified in the corner of one of the enclosure ditches. A medieval field boundary was also encountered.
