Abstract/Summary

The land is currently water meadow on the Upper nene Valley flood plain and comprises a long strip of gournd along the north bank of the River Nene, ditches to the sides of the A45 ring road and an area of land encircling Upton Mill. Several archaeological sites are recorded in close proximity to the application area. The development will involve the excavation of substantial drainage ditches. Two known sites are likely to be affected by the development: a group of parallel inear cropmarks, probably cultivation remains, and the environs of Upton Mill, comprising the buildings, the mill race, the mill pond and the bridge.
