Abstract/Summary

Stratiscan were commissioned to undertake a geophysical survey of an area, measuring approximately three hectares, outlined for development. This survey forms part of an archaeological investigation by the University of Leicester Archaeological Service. The site is located south of Maidwell, Northamptonshire at OS ref. SP 748 764 and consists of relatively flat pasture but prominent ridge and furrow is evident within the survey area. The objective of the gradiometer survey was to locate any features of possible archaeological significance in order that they may be assessed prior to development. The survey has identified a number of anomalies of a possible archaeological origin. Positive linear rectilinear anomalies, curvilinear features and possible pits are all evident within the survey area with a particular concentration in the western half of the site.
