Abstract/Summary

In March 2009 Cotswold Archaeology was commissioned by Alibone Recycling to carry out an Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment of land at Sandy Hill Lane, Moulton, Northamptonshire. The objective of the assessment was to identify the nature and extent of the recorded archaeological resource within both the site and its immediate environs. Prehistoric activity in the vicinity appears to have been focused in the northern and western parts of the study area where cropmark complexes of probable prehistoric date have been recorded on the south-east facing slopes of a slight valley. The distribution of these cropmarks may be a reflection of the underlying geology, which comprises free-draining sand conducive to cropmark formation, and the extent of this activity has not been defined. There may be some potential for associated prehistoric remains within the site although none are recorded at present. The baseline survey has identified little potential for currently unrecorded Roman or later remains within the site. No buildings of cultural heritage value have been identified within the site.
