Abstract/Summary

Trial trench evaluation was undertaken in advance of development of land at 30 Woodnewton Road as the site lay in an archaeologically sensitive area. No archaeological features or deposits were identified during the investigation. The site appears to have been within an open field, peripheral to the settlement, from at least the late 19th century until the mid 20th century when No. 30 was constructed. Extensive garden landscaping appears to have been carried out at some time following the construction of the house, and cartographic sources indicate this may have been at some time in or after the mid 1970s. No artefacts of any antiquity were retrived during the investigations. A small collection of modern material was retrieved for dating purposes and has been discarded.
