Abstract/Summary

A programme of historic building recording was undertaken at Hall Farm prior to the part demolition and conversion of traditional farm buildings to residential use. The project took the form of a photographic survey, with individual views related to ground plans supplied by Francis Jackson Homes Ltd. The buildings recorded are of historic interest and importance in terms of local rural vernacular archaeology. The structures include remnants of a farmhouse, a stable with hayloft/granary above and an adjoining cartshed, two threshing barns arranged to form an L shape, and the fragmentary remains of a shelter shed for cattle. Graffiti suggests the stable was built in 1777. Further inscriptions may indicate that one of the threshing barns was constructed in 1778 and experienced alterations in 1790 and 1822.
