Abstract/Summary

In September 2012, an archaeological evaluation comprising the excavation of nine trial trenches was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology on a block of land off Waters Lane, Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire. The work, which was commissioned by CgMs Consulting, acting on behalf of David Wilson Homes (South Midlands), was undertaken in connection with current planning proposals for the residential development of the site. No archaeological features were recorded in any of the trenches and no artefacts were recovered from the topsoil or subsoil. There was no evidence for archaeological features corresponding to the anomalies interpreted as possible ditches and a pit on the geophysical survey. Traces of furrows were recorded in two trenches and corresponded to the pattern of ridge and furrow indicated by the geophysical survey.
