Abstract/Summary
MFL Archaeology was commissioned in December 2013 to undertake a programme of archaeological observation, investigation, recording and analysis of six test pit excavations in respect of the construction of a fishing lake on land adjacent to the M45 and west of Barby Lane, Barby. The archaeological evaluation was undertaken to a depth well into natural substrates and revealed just one v-shaped gully from a test pit nearest to the entrance to the property and Barby Lane. This feature was interpreted as the remains of a hedge line, almost certainly the same field boundary that existed on an east-west alignment on 19th century Ordnance Survey maps. Although previous ridge and furrow agriculture was visually perceptible on the surface convincing evidence within the test pits was not forthcoming.
