Abstract/Summary
Over a period of three days in September 2013 Souterrain Archaeological Services undertook archaeological investigation and recording during groundworks for extensions to the dwelling at No. 21 Northampton Road, Yardley Hastings. The objectives of the investigation were to ensure that the archaeological interest of the site was safeguarded and broadly to attempt to recover information that may contribute to our understanding of medieval land use and settlement at Yardley Hastings. The investigation took place about 20m east of a medieval kiln which was excavated in 1979. During the recent work, structural evidence in the form of a series of post holes and post settings and a suspected sill beam trench were investigated. The features, broadly dated by pottery to the 13th century, were probably part of the pottery production site. Other archaeological features at the development site related to 19th century land use and included a substantial brick-built well.
