Abstract/Summary

A watching brief was undertaken on the excavation of a power cable trench on the south side of the B4036, Daventry to Long Buckby Road, near Thrupp Farm, Northamptonshire. Several ditches of unknown date and a probable mid Victorian rubbish pit were observed along the general alignment of the cable trench. However, along a 35m stretch of the trench were a series of features included two associated masonry walls (one of which was apsidal), a hearth from another structure and a further sizeable stone wall associated with the metalled floor foundation surface of a third building. Likely to be associated with the deserted medieval village of Thrupp, they are possibly the remains of late 15th century medieval tenements and chapel destroyed by enclosure in 1489
