Abstract/Summary

An archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching was carried out on land at Collingtree Road, Milton Malsor, Northamptonshire (SP 7350 5550) by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) on 22 January, 2015. Work was undertaken for Porterhouse Land and Development Ltd. in order to establish the nature, extent, date and significance of any archaeological deposits which may be present, in order that an assessment may be made of the impact of any proposed development on the buried remains. Four trenches were excavated across the site, sampling 3.3% of its c.0.17 ha area. Overall, the results of the trial-trenching was negative for archaeological activity. Topsoil and subsoil appear to have survived across the site with minimal disturbance, apart from the remains of a probable hedge bank running east to west separating the southern third of the site from the northern part. This is corroborated by historic mapping. A digital copy of the archive is provided in the appendices at the end of this report. The physical archive will be retained by ULAS under the accession number ULAS-14609 pending the provision of an appropriate recipient body. Northamptonshire’s Historic Environment Record (HER) has issued the event identification number ENN107905 for the site.
