Abstract/Summary

Two test pits were excavated in advance of the creation of parking spaces next to the church. Earthworks thought to be the remains of an earlier property or row of tenements partly lie within the area. The test pits revealed two walls. In TP 1, pottery associated with the wall was of 18th century date, which would be consistent with construction sometime after detailed village maps of 1715 which showed the area being used as an orchard. The wall partly exposed in TP2 was of more solid construction but undated. Possibly associated with the earthworks indicating a pre-18th century date.
