Abstract/Summary

The value of watching briefs on small plots of land has been demonstrated in Brackley through two watching briefs that have produced the first physical evidence of clay tobacco-pipe manufacturing in the town during the 17th and 18th centuries. The site with the earlier evidence was at Caked in Bread, 38 Market Place and the other was at 115 High Street. The watching briefs were carried out by MOLA Northampton, formerly Northamptonshire Archaeology.
