Monument record 130/0/211 - Probable 18th century pipemakers workshop (John Davis?), High Street

A pit containing clay pipe wasters from the early 18th century indicates the presence nearby of a kiln/workshop.

{1} A watching brief at 115 High Street, found a pit containing wasters of clay tobacco-pipes dating to 1700-1740. The pit indicates that there was a kiln/workshop situated nearby.
The only evidence of a pipe maker in this area was master pipemaker, John Davis, who had a cottage on the east side of the High Street in the early-mid 18th century, which matches the date of the pipes exactly.
