Abstract/Summary

MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Rathmell Consulting Archaeology Ltd on behalf of Breedon Aggregates to carry out archaeological trial trenching on land at Spinney Quarry, Earls Barton. Seventy-three trenches were excavated, with archaeological features present in thirty of the trenches. Six trenches produced features from which Roman pottery was recovered, suggesting dispersed Roman activity. A single cremation is also likely to be Roman in date. Two post-medieval to modern ditches were also identified along with a brick-lined culvert which ran across the development area. The majority of the features identified were undated, mostly comprising linear ditches supplemented by a small number of pits.
