Abstract/Summary

Historic building recording was undertaken at Tudor Cottage, Number 13 Bridge Street, King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire. Dating from the early 17th century, the building is of architectural and historic interest and is Listed Grade II. The building survey recorded two major phases of construction. Dating from the early 17th century, the street front range was the original construction. This retains various original features including mullioned windows, a fireplace and exposed beams. Blocked doors at both ground and first floor level indicate that there was originally a 2-storey linking structure to the east of the recorded building. Probably in the 19th century an extension was added to the rear. Historic map evidence indicates that this addition extended to the northern boundary of the property but was shortened in the later 20th century. There was also structural evidence that this extension was originally lower, but had been raised in height. A variety of other alterations including the insertion of windows was made in the 19th and 20th centuries.
