Abstract/Summary
MOLA Northampton was commissioned by Northamptonshire County Council to carry out an archaeological test pit investigation on land at the former Castle House, Marefair, Northampton. A total of five test pits were excavated, three lay within the footprint of the former building with the remaining two located in a courtyard area to the north with the aim of identifying the extent of the modern truncation and if any archaeological deposit survived on the site. only truncation of the natural substratum was observed within the footprint of the former building, however the courtyard test pits revealed a buried medieval wall, pits, garden soils and an 19th-century building beneath up to 3.0m of overburden.
