Abstract/Summary

This document is an archaeological standing building survey of Goat Cottage, The Green, Badby, Northamptonshire (SP 55985 59083), commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) in advance of the proposed conservation and conversion of the building to residential use. Goat Cottage is an interesting building with its varied history reflected in its current structure and fabric. The building began in the mid 17th century as a domestic house with attached cow hovel, later becoming an ancillary building for the Hollies and later again a slaughterhouse. This change in status is reflected especially in the roof structure, which originated with well-finished carpentry later replaced with unfinished round wood repairs and tinned sheets overlaying thatch. The archive will be retained by ABRS under the temporary site code 2015-GCBN until deposition with Northamptonshire County Council can be arranged.
