Abstract/Summary
In December 2016 a programme of archaeological monitoring was undertaken on land to the rear of 94 Farndish Road, Irchester, during groundworks for the construction of two detached bungalows. The site lies some distance to the south of Irchester Roman town, adjacent to an area containing cropmarks of probable Iron Age and Roman date. Plot 1, on the south side of the site in the former garden, was stripped of topsoil under observation, but did not contain any buried heritage assets. Plot 2, at the west end of the site, had previously been covered by a concrete hardstanding which had required significant terracing and ground reduction for its construction, almost certainly truncating or removing any buried heritage assets that might have been present. No finds of any archaeological significance were noted in the excavated soil.
