Abstract/Summary
This document is an archaeological standing building survey of Newton Mill Farm (Outbuildings Only), Newton Road, Geddington, Northamptonshire (SP 88927 83239), commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) by Boughton Estate Ltd in advance of the proposed conversion of the buildings to residential use. Newton Mill Farm is an interesting range of buildings dating to the mid 19th century. The complex appears to be a wholly pastoral farm associated with the adjacent water mill. The complex retains a number of interesting features, most notably the extensive use of the Saltire symbol on door latches, a decorative flourish which originated to ward off evil spirits, as well as a copper for boiling swill and an unidentified timber-built stall within building B. There are a number of original timber-built structures surviving within the complex, some of which contain early graffiti which support the cartographic evidence of the complex. The archive will be retained by ABRS under the temporary site code 2015-NMGN until deposition with Northamptonshire County Council can be arranged.
