Full Description

{1}Building recording survey. Interesting range of buildings dating to the mid 19th century. The complex appears to be a wholly pastoral farm associated with the adjacent water mill. Following the closure of the mill in the early 20th century there were some agricultural developments including the construction of a rather grand pigsty and later still a covered yard.
The complex retains a number of interesting features, most notably the extensive use of the Saltire symbol on door latches, a decorative flourish which originated to ward off evil spirits, as well as a copper for boiling swill, which pre-dates the current pigsty.
There are a number of original timber-built structures surviving within the complex, which is unusual, and suggest the complex has been well maintained and managed. The most enigmatic of which is the stall within building B, the exact use and origin of which remains unclear; the dated graffiti indicates it is, if not original then an early modification.
