Abstract/Summary

Archaeological observation undertaken during the laying of underground cables between Irthlingborough, Great Addington and Thrapston as the route was archaeologically sensitive. Sections of the route lay on the course of a Roman road, passing through areas of Iron Age, Roman and medieval settlement, and near to an Iron Age hillfort, a Bronze Age barrow and a Roman villa. The investigation revealed several undated ditches at Little Addington close to postulated Iron Age settlement. No evidence of a Roman road, thought to cross the pipeline, was observed. No finds were retrieved.
