Abstract/Summary

Steve Upex and I have been looking at this site for a couple of years, and have discussed it with others including Chris Taylor and Oliver Creighton. We are in agreement that it is almost certainly a medieval ringwork, most probably a C12 siege castle against the main Fotheringhay castle. We have walked the site with the landowner’s permission, and the earthwork stands to a height of c.150mm. Our intention is to undertake geophysics as a next step, but the landowner is nervous about any extension of the Fotheringhay Castle scheduled area and has declined to give us access again.
