Abstract/Summary
An archaeological investigation was undertaken by Worcestershire Archaeology (WA) in March 2019 at land south of Field View, Brackley, Northamptonshire (NGR SP 57604 37186). This comprised the excavation of three trenches to sample the deposits of two features which had been identified as possible palaeochannels during evaluation of the site. The project was commissioned by Lagan Homes Ltd, in advance of the proposed construction of 68 dwellings and associated infrastructure. During this investigation, it was determined that the features were in fact natural depressions that had been infilled certainly by alluviation and possibly by periglacial loess. One was of Neolithic or later date, whilst Upper Palaeolithic flint tools were recovered from the other. The environmental evidence of the earlier feature was negligible, whilst the mollusc evidence from the later feature suggested a landscape of open meadows.
